Hello everyone, I have chosen the topic ‘Exploring sustainability in Indigenous Communities’, for my chosen scenario. In my essay I am focusing on three problems that Australia’s remote Indigenous communities are facing. These issues of sustainability all fall under the sustainability pillars (Social, Economic and Environment).
1. Lack of appropriate educational programs.
2. Not having equitable distribution of resource
3. Land degradation
Sustainability is the preservation and restoration of the Environment, Economy and Society, it is done by looking at the way people handle the constant flow and changes in everyday life. Sustainability is planetary and connects with every aspect of life. The earth has a limited amount of natural resources and with our continuous growth of the human population and bad habits of destruction of environments and not having equitable ways of waste management, there aren’t enough natural resources to continue living life as we do.

Indigenous students in remote communities may have to travel away from their homes and family members to receive higher education, in particular, for middle school and high school. Living within and adapting to a new and different environment and having to abide by an unfamiliar routine may leave students feeling uneasy and home sick. Students may find that are unable to cope with the pressure and stress of being away from everything they know and will drop out of school and return home, without an education.
