In 1870, Coloma’s population started to dwindle. It had only 200 residents. The population continued to dwindle over the years. Once Coloma’s hectic days died down, Placerville became the main hub of the Mother Lode. Today Sutter’s Mill is a State Park. About 70% of old town Coloma is part of Marshall Gold Discovery State Park. The park features a number of old buildings that have survived since the mid 1800s. Today, Coloma is home to nearly 200.
