I am applying to study the History course as I have always been interested in History and other people’s beliefs and cultures. From a very young age I have loved going to various museums and historical sights all over Scotland finding out how people in the past lived and what they believed in. I am also fascinated by the subject of Classical studies - the Gods that different societies had faith in (the Vikings, Romans, Greeks, etc). I would like to take my passion for this subject even further and turn it in to my dream career of becoming a Secondary School Teacher. I believe that secondary education plays an extremely important part in shaping the lives of young people and I would like to be a part of that.

In 2010 I gained employment in Cedar Nursery as a Childcare Assistant and pursued the SVQ3 Children’s Care, Learning and Development course to become a fully qualified Early Years Practitioner. I worked here for 3 years and gained a lot of experience and knowledge working with 2 – 12 year olds. I was a key – practitioner to a group of 10 children and was responsible for these children’s Learning Folders. I took part in parent’s night and discussed with parents their child’s progress or any worries they might have had. I was also the Eco Schools Coordinator and managed to obtain the Silver Award for the nursery.
In 2013 I got a job as Childcare Team Leader in Cumbernauld YMCA where I ran one of their afterschool and breakfast clubs in Denny. As Team Leader I planned daily activities for the children and ensured they were in a safe environment. During my time as Team Leader we were inspected by the Care Inspectorate and gained very high grades of 5’s and 6’s which are “very good” and “excellent”. I am extremely proud of this as I worked hard as Team Leader to get the afterschool care to that …show more content…

We have climbed quite a few hills over the past few years including Conic Hill, Meikle Bin and Dumyat. I enjoy the beautiful Scottish scenery whilst we are walking and the sense of achievement when you reach the top is amazing, not to mention the views. I also enjoy visiting historical places with my partner as we both love History. We go on holiday in Scotland every summer and visit lots of historical sights and do lots of walking. This summer we went to Skye and saw the museum of Clan Donald in Armadale Castle and country park. It was extremely interesting. It had lots of information about the Jacobite risings. We also stopped at the Skye Museum of Island Life in North Skye near Kilmuir. It showed how people throughout different years lived in the village and how hard their lives were. Last summer we went to Beauly, Inverness-shire and went to the Culloden Battlefield and the Clava Cairns (burial mounds) that were only a short drive from the battlefield. We also visited Urquhart Castle and the Bone Caves near Ullapool where archaeologists have found bones and skulls of polar bears, arctic foxes, deer and even some humans. I also look after my niece and nephews when I have time. We enjoy doing art activities, going walks and to the park. I am passing my love for History on to them by taking them to different historic sites
