Since 2008 CVS is continuously measuring and reporting its GHG emissions and is trying to reduce its energy use, water use and waste. Standards laid down by the World Resources Institute and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development informs CVS about the boundaries of its carbon footprint, which encompasses all its U.S. retail stores, MinuteClinic locations, distribution centers, and corporate facilities, as well as emissions from business travel, product delivery and refrigerants. Waste Water – Photo Processing Service
A major focus area for the retail stores is managing the waste produced from their photo-processing services. CVS is in the process of converting all stores with chemical based photo-development processors to dry digital processors. The ink cartridges from dry digital processors do not require special handling or contain materials considered hazardous. Since inception, CVS has converted nearly 3,200 stores, including 838 stores in 2014, to digital photo processing. It plans to convert another 757 stores in 2015, which will complete its nationwide transition to digital photo processing.
Recommendation
1) CVS should also look for new technology to use recycled paper for photo printing.
