The two companies I chose were from the NYSE. They are Verizon communication and Sprint Corporation. They are both well-known companies in the U.S. They represent the upper echelon the telecom and wireless communication industry. Their main competitor are T-Mobile, and AT&T. Verizon is a Juggernaut and boast a very impressive resume. They are the number 1 wireless phone service in the US and the number 2 US telecom services provider overall (Verizon 2016). Verizon commitment to corporate governance starts with it guideline. The guideline was adopted to holds the company to adherence to fair practices. The key things they have in place to make the guidelines effective are the four standing committees of the Board: Audit; Corporate Governance and Policy; Finance and Human Resources. They are all independent and work to maintain a check and balance in the corporation. They are also able to charge a much higher price that the other companies because of the great service they provide. Many of their competitor are now claiming to be very close to their service and have created some very interesting marketing tools to take some of Verizon’s customer. The biggest tactic used is the attack on price by other networks offering to cut prices in half and pay money to potential customer to switch carrier. Verizon has also made a very strong move on being a cable and home internet provider. They have introduced Verizon FiOS that is slowly started to compete with the local cable giants such a Cox cable.
