I think my organization is considered to be innovative in retail health provider. Walgreens’ pharmacies relied heavily in technology implementation. Since 1981, Walgreens founded their proprietary pharmacy computer system, Intercom Plus. It was the first large scale retail pharmacy computer system and relies on satellite as well as broadband connections to link over 8,000 Walgreen retail, mail services, and specialty pharmacies. It is considered to be the largest private user of satellite transmission data in the world. Throughout the year, Intercom Plus continues to evolve and improve to become the most user friendly system in retail industries. TeamRX, the core component of Intercom Plus, enable pharmacy team members to help balancing the workload by remotely processed paper prescriptions and electronic prescriptions (E-Rx) through dynamic workload balancing (DWB). For instance, once the prescription scanned into the system, a team member from another store can remotely process the scanned prescription. Through WDB, high volume stores can receive help from other stores during peak time to alleviate the workload. To improve customer retention and loyalty, Walgreens created a Balance Reward Program. Through Balance Reward, customers received points for their purchases. In addition, Walgreens also partnered with Catalina to promote suggestive sales based on customer’s information such as purchase history, gender, and age. For instance, if a customer frequently purchased infant formulas, the coupon printers or Walgreens Mobile Apps will provide additional promotions for items such as diapers, baby lotion, or other baby related items.
