Overview of Company and Industry The Friends of Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge (BANWR) is a nonprofit organization managed by committed citizens. Its mission is to conserve and protect the wildlife located in the refuge (Friends, 2018). It is key to distinguish the Friends as a separate entity from BANWR. Friends of BANWR’s revenue is based on grants, donations, and store sales, not government funding. BANWR is categorized under the National and State Parks industry (O'Hollaren, 2017). There originally stood two hundred miles of fence that negatively affected wildlife; only 32 miles still stand. Also, visitors must have a guide to enter Brown Canyon. This creates a “product” that is distinguishable from the competitors’ version. A main weakness of the organization is that it has limited financial resources; the main sources of income for this organization are the wildlife store and recycling of fencing materials. Opportunities, Threats, and Trends The Friends of BANWR has the opportunity to update its online presence. This change could create an avenue for revenue through offering a way to book hiking tours and find information easily online. Therefore, competitors are not the only parks in the state of Arizona, but a wide variety of industries are competing for these determinants of demand, time, and money. For volunteers, the Friends of BANWR competes directly with Sky Island Alliance. This organization has similar goals to our client; it wants to preserve land for future generations in Arizona. This organization’s similar mission and area of expertise interferes with the goals of the Friends of BANWR. Another main threat to the Friends of BANWR is other Friends organizations nationally. One applicable trend is known as Atmosfear. Atmosfear refers to the idea that the environment has been tampered with and damaged by human interference (User, 2017).
