Sybil is a book written by Flora Rheta Schreiber and published with the help of Regnery Publishing Inc. Flora Rheta is a well educated psychologist and knew and was fascinated by Sybil’s disorder even before she wrote the book. During Sybil’s psychoanalysis, Rheta and Sybil became friends, and she would frequently visit Rheta’s apartment. I personally would recommend to read this book, although it may be hard to even “read” through it because, of the way the book explores the most horrifying aspects of child abuse. The book is separated into four different sections to help with the flow of the book shown as; Being, Becoming, Unbecoming, and Reentry. “Being” explores the curious condition Sybil has. Sybil gets sent home from college because of her mental condition so she can recover. But, it is shown that her parents are overprotective, and this only manifests Sybil’s condition even further. Sybil’s first visit with Dr. Wilbur caused her to have a crush on him because Wilbur was the only person that could associate with her so closely. Her sessions with Dr. Wilbur managed to get her through college. As she moved to New York city, Sybil is starting to have relapses again. But coincidentally, Dr. Wilbur has also moved into New York too! Sybil decides that another round of sessions with Wilbur will be enough to permanently suppress her disorder. As she is having one of her sessions with him, Sybil reveals her first alternate identity- “Peggy”. As described by Sibil herself while she transformed into peggy mid-session: “‘Can’t you
