Sammy (Gallery- Middle Georgia Art Association) is a work of art by Sydney Elaine Davis. The work of art appears to be of a young girl. (See fig. 2) The girl is pulling her hair back out of her face with flowers lifted from her around her nose and words escaping from her mouth. There is significance to her eyes and mouth being closed but words still coming out. This seems to mean the words are difficult or hard to say but need to be said. Some of the words are highlighted, showing the importance of the words being visual. The flowers signify something young and new, the youth and fun of flowers is displayed. Whereas, the shadows around the eyes may signify some darkness. There is a forest and stream in the background, bringing nature into the art. They are not carefully placed but rather roughly placed with the edges being harsh. There is a story being told but Davis allows you to imagine what words are difficult for one to say and what story you want to create. The mouth and eyes are closed to draw attention to the words. The flowers carefully placed around the nose are hard to notice until you look closely. They are delicate and soft. The flowers signify the youth and fun of the girl. It could also signify the season of life the young girl is in. The background is green and flowers are available, meaning it is spring or summer. This season is for new things to bloom and happiness is created for the girl.
