I believe Switzerland’s suicide rate had not been as most Durkheim theories would have one believe that it was a societal class struggle or regulation and integration. I think because the opportunity was there and safely presented a way for residents to explore their options, it had become a liberty. Assisted suicide, if done in the manner that has been directly approved by the patient who is sound of mind is an accommodating practice. However, if provoked for egotistical means for someone to take their life, one could be looking at up to five years of imprisonment for the support in an attempt or successful suicide. Symbolic interaction derives from people’s perspectives and human interpretation of society and what is acceptable by common means. This theory accounts for the many relations with our environment and how they symbolically shape our behaviors. If a behavior has been labeled by the majority as criminal, than it will become an understood norm that it will be dealt with as such. North Korea strives in superiority and distinction, which could mean viewing their citizens as weak, is intolerable. A nation that needs uniting by all cannot falter and choose death as the way out before their religion and governmental rulings. Giving people the choice to do what they want respectfully supports a healthy environment where citizens are not ashamed or fearful of their government chastising their private decisions. I believe in the value in life and would hope that because there is a more lenient rule it would not become a national epidemic because that privilege is there. I, however, agree wholeheartedly that the safety provisions Switzerland ensures in assisted suicide makes for a much more safe practice. North Koreans have the fear their government will strike down on their family when trying to control the destiny of their hereafter, I do not think the government has the authority here. Everyone has come into this world differently and has the right to say how they should exit without abolishment or exile. Suicide is a personal matter that affects the psyche if someone is looking for consonance of the spirit, body and mind they will most likely find relief from their burdens no matter what obstacle of law is in front of them. Protecting their wellbeing by alleviating pain and reassuring grieving patients or family members is a much more humane way to support this issue. No one should feel like an outcast for the choice of suicide due to unbearable pain and anguish if that is their conclusion.
