Who Argued It Better? So, I decided to select the story, “A Rose For Emily”. This story very widely shows symbolism throughout. There are a lot of things that stand for something and have true meaning to it. In this short story, I was able to depict each type of symbolism and focus thoroughly on how it played a big part in the story as a whole. There is no hidden secret that this story explores the strain tensions between the past, present, and future. One very important symbol is Emily’s pocket watch. This was actually extremely essential- as Emily’s time was “forever” ticking. At least that is what I got from it. Throughout the story, the author constantly related things and or characters to time. For example, Miss Emily’s hair was also symbolized as time, heavily.
