“Fahrenheit 451” by Rad Bradbury is a symbolistic dystopian novel that explores the importance of critical thinking, the freedom to read and the power of thoughtful conversations. It also serves as a reminder of the value of literature and the importance of intellectual freedom.
Set in a future society where books are banned and burned to suppress critical thinking and independent thought, “Fahrenheit 451” follows the life of Guy Montag, a fireman whose job is to burn books. However, throughout the novel, Montag meets different people who have a different perspectives on the societal norms and oppress the government. The people that Montag meets give the view of how powerful literature can be. Throughout this process, he questions societal norms and goes against the status quote. …show more content…

Firstly Montag’s role as a fireman, tasked to burn books, implies that fire is related to destruction and censorship metaphorically. However, as Montag’s perspective evolves, fire gains a new meaning. He begins to see it as a symbol of resurrection and renewal, This is supported in the novel by the group of individuals who memorized books and seek to preserve knowledge. Through the transformation of fire in this novel, Ray Bradbury shows us that enlightenment and the power of ideas ignite
