ne could say that two streams are simply two streams just as two school sessions are two school sessions, but they’d be wrong. In one of John Knowles’ classic creations, symbolism is everywhere throughout and in between pages, leaving no ordinary object unaffected. Two very important symbols that sustain the theme of innocence and childhood dying in A Separate Peace are the two rivers surrounding the grounds and the two sessions of school. There are two rivers that surround the Devon School; the Devon and the Naguamsett. Though alike in a few ways, these bodies of water show a huge contrast between them.
