In the poem it talks about how you should never give up and crystals stairs. It also talks about how life can get really hard but you should never give up. It all around shows how life can get really hard but you can never give up. I also chose the poem “Crucible Of Champions'' by Nikki Grimes because it shows how if you're black you have a target on your back.

Let us say someone encountered a bump in life or something bad happened people will always move past it eventually because people cannot let something weigh them down for the rest of their lives. The big message or idea of these two poems is to keep moving on because people will always have to deal with problems. In “Mother to Son” by Langston Hughes and Still I Rise by Maya Angelou they both convey the message that people should never give up and keep on rising no matter what happens or what people say. Throughout the poem “Mother to Son,” Langston Hughes coveys that people should always keep pushing towards their goals and not give up.
The narrator within the poem perceives himself as superior to the subjects that he observes, and recognizes that they behave as savages due to the absence of rules and boundaries. They fail to acknowledge the error in their destructive behavior and continue to act with free will, which portrays human nature as wicked and unruly. One of them glanced at the narrator and insinuated that they were equals, which implies that the narrator also indulges in sinful behavior with the rest of them. Despite the narrator’s feeling of superiority, their actions reflect the same manner as those they view as beneath them. There exists a domino effect that causes the behavior of others to influence the nature of those surrounding them.

The Nature of Symbolism within Trethewey’s “Elegy” In this poem “Elegy,” Natasha Trethewey depicts the relationship between herself and her late father by means of a metaphor that carries throughout the entire poem. We see that an elegy is typically used to lament the dead, however the abstract language of this poem sends a more demining message. This connotative thought is exactly what Trethewey chooses to address through subliminal metaphors equipped with items typically used to destroy rather than build, along with symbolism that alludes to fighting adversity.
In this sense, the title paves the way for the main theme of the poem which is the difficulty of forgetting the miserable life of the ghettos. In addition, anger plays an important role in the poem, although it is not expressed in a direct way, but it is the reason why Kimel cannot forget. At the beginning of the poem, he seems confused and miserable. But his tone gradually changes since he gets angry and more determined rather than just being sad and perplexed. The poem seems to be like an interior monologue in which Kimel reveals his thoughts and internal conflict using first person pronouns.
