The stories “The Count of Monte Cristo” and the book “Blessings” are two stories that are developed differently based on the context of the story. “The Count of Monte Cristo” is about a character named Edmond that is in jail, he suddenly heard a sound and throughout the story he thinks that the sound is someone working or someone trying to escape. The story “Blessings” is about two people, Jesse and Rene who go on this journey which is going to a rock on the peak of a ridge. The similarities and differences of the story is basically just about what the characters can see in their perspective.

Is that really true or can people forgive and forget instead of getting revenge every time they are hurt. In The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas the author uses figurative language and imagery to portray the theme of vengeance.
In Jeannette Walls’ memoir, The Glass Castle, she uses many symbols to show important moments in her life. One symbol being the broken down house in Welch. In the story the family lived at 93 Little Hobart Street which consisted of a house without indoor plumbing, and no insulation. The roof had constant leaks, and faulty electrical wiring. For example in the text the roof collapses in Brian’s bedroom, so he is forced to go sleep on the porch that wasn’t closed off under a blow up mattress to stay warm and dry.
The book The Thirteenth Valley, by John M. Del Vecchio, follows the story of James Vincent Chelini and Alpha Company’s journey to the tree while going under hardship during the Vietnam War. Multiple soldiers from the Oh-Deuce are unfortunate enough to not make it to the tree, or die at the base of the tree. There are multiple symbolism scattered throughout the novel, such as the names of the boonierats, references to the bible, and what the journey to the tree means. The names that the boonierats possess gives an insight of what type of person they are and the impact they have in the book. The main character of the book, otherwise known as James Vincent Chelini, is given the nickname Cherry.
In Jeannette Walls’s memoir The Glass Castle, fire symbolizes the instability that the Walls family constantly deals with. Jeannette questions if fire is out to get her and how she “lived in a world that at any moment could erupt into fire”. Jeannette has this viewpoint due to Rex’s own contribution of unreliability in the household. The fire in this instance also represents the chaos of Rex’s abhorrent alcohol abuse.
To keep his name clean Villefort sends Dantes to prison where he is imprisoned for fourteen years before he escapes. In prison he becomes friends with a priest, Abbe Faria, who tells him of a hidden treasure that Dantes can get once he escapes. Later on it is found out that Abbe Faria has a disease that h is likely to die from and eventually he does die after a massive seizure. When he dies Dantes takes on the act of a dead body and escapes that way. After escaping he finds the treasure and starts his new life of power and vengeance.
In his novel, The Count of Monte Cristo, Alexandre Dumas develops Edmond Dantes as an agent of Providence to demonstrate that God rewards the good and punishes the wicked. In the novel, the claim of Dantes’ position as an agent of providence is supported by his acquisition of means from God and the belief that he is chosen by God to punish the wicked. Edmond Dantes is given the means to escape and punish the wicked from God. Alexandre Dumas has Dantes monologue about his triumphant return and his own perceptions of its cause to Mercedez. During this monologue, Dantes describes the considerable fortune he obtained by telling Mercedez, “I considered that fortune as a sacred trust;” (495).
There are several similarities as well as differences in the way the authors of The Count of Monte Cristo and Blessings developed a theme. The theme of The Count of Monte Cristo is to never give up hope. The theme of Blessings is to be willing to open yourself up to others. Both authors developed these themes through the actions of the main characters and in the conclusion of the passage. One of the differences in the development of both themes is that Alexandre Dumas sheds light on the thought process of the main character in The Count of Monte Cristo, while Mary Hall Surface provides limited information about what the main characters may be thinking in Blessings.
Symbols in literature aren’t simply one-sided. When looked at briefly, symbols may seem to be just another simple element in a story. Although when one takes the time to really understand the symbol, it becomes another whole component. In the novel, The Glass Castle, by Jeannette Walls, the Glass Castle is one of the biggest symbol. Whenever Jeannette’s father, Rex, couldn’t seem to support his family in an adequate way, he brought up the Glass Castle as a promise to his children.
While many writers just write about objects that are incorporated their own life, In the Glass Castle through close critical analysis Jeannette Walls uses symbolism that are hidden beneath her words to represent ideas in order to write her memoir. The words she uses colors the mind of the listener and the language colors the mind of the reader. Right before a reader opens the book the title already symbolizes something. The title evokes certain responses in the reader.
Throughout The Princess Bride, the author included a significant amount of symbolism. The six fingered sword is a great example of symbolism in the text. It's rather odd that a sword of this design belonged to a five fingered man. Inigo's father, Domingo Montoya, was a master craftsman who was commissioned by a powerful noble to create the best sword in all the land. He spent a great deal of time on this sword and expected a reward of equal value.
In the book The Count of Monte Cristo we see that Edmond has changed drastically, throughout the years. He changed in multiple ways. He changed from being a spiteful prisoner seeking his revenge for the people who framed him, to when he is free from prison and finds the hidden treasure of Monte Cristo. It was a life altering moment for Edmond. He turns his life around and does acts of service for everyone else around him.
Puzzles are unique and complex with the level of complexity based on their pieces. Hence, when the pieces of a puzzle are arranged correctly a picture is devised. Analogous to a puzzle are allegorical elements. Allegorical elements convey symbols that are contrived into thematic statements.
•Edmond Dantès: Protagonist. Edmond’s unequivocal happiness is cut short when his enemies, who are blinded by their jealousy and self-bitterness, plot against him. Edmond’s gullibility and willingness to incoherently trust everyone around him precipitates his downfall. His destruction of character and desire for vengeance leads him to overstep moral boundaries. With the transformation of Edmond into the Count of Monte Cristo, he experiences a metaphorical death, the death of his virtuous self.
