In the novel The Road, written by Cormac McCarthy, we see the aftermath of a major apocalypse. A man and his son walk the deathly road to find a better place, not knowing their chances of survival. They face the loss of all humanity where nothing but your own life has value. Symbolism was used in the novel to support the setting of The Road, three symbols that help support the setting are; the coke can and coins found in an abandoned supermarket, the fire/light the man and son carry within them and the road they walk along on their journey.

The first symbol is the coke can and coins, this symbol shows significznt support to the setting of The Road. The The Road, all life has been lost, nothing is left and all we see is the ash and rubble
