Charles Mungoshi’s story “The Setting Sun And The Rolling World” uses symbolism to develop several themes in the story. In particular, Mungoshi uses the plane as a symbol to further establish the themes of uncertainty, change, and differences in opinion. The plane is a modern machine that is always on the move, going from one place to the next, as the way a boy dreams.
