Symbolism is a used in our everyday lives that appears quite often but isn't deeply thought about. The greater meaning of symbolism is using something from a phrase to an image to represent a message. We use symbolism to gain a message in life that forever stays in our hearts. In the book Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls, symbolism is used to awe the reader and make them think about the message being sent in the story. The wind made a powerful statement, a statement of guidance after a long ride of perseverance. A statement of hope, almost as if it were a rose blooming to join with its thorns. Whenever there is a situation where someone needs hope or is almost at the point of giving up and right that moment something comes to assist, from a fairy grandmother to wind, this symbolizes guidance and hope. With the wind we can infer that Billy is thankful and glad to have this assistance and makes him feel true to himself about keeping his promise to his hounds. The Red Fern is the gaurdian angel of these special dogs. The Red Fern helps Billy move forward in life, of course never forgetting his dogs, but to have something to be proud of in life. The red fern is a sign of protection and comfort. When we say the word sacred it means blessed or holy. The blessed and holy sacred fern is not any normal fern,, it is a very special fern that has been chosen to be planted on the grave of these two dogs specifically.
