Mat wiser exclaims that in the next year nations will fight over water, because it’s not being handled in the most efficient way it should be. Water isn’t being handled efficiently, and that kills land, food crops, and animals ecosystems. Mat Wiser says that, “There is probably enough fresh water available to meet humans needs the problem is poor management of water, which results in scarcity and conflicts,” (2009 Wiser).

In the movie Big Fish water is an important symbol throughout the whole movie. Without water us humans cannot survive or live, it is a basic necessity for life, our bodies are 55-65% water. In the movie one example of water being used as a symbol for life is when Will had come home from Paris, Edward is laying in bed and on his table beside his bed is a big pitcher of water. When reading the short story, the first symbol the reader acknowledges is the title and how it is used to draw the setting. “Greasy Lake” gives us the vibe of how “it may be a party site, but it is associated with decay and destruction” (Grace 3). As Dominick Grace states, “the title “Greasy Lake” gives Boyle the chance to create an unpredictable atmosphere” (3). By creating an unpredictable setting, the reader is able to predict what consequences are to come as the narrator and his friends go on their “bad” adventure. Boyle makes the story more realistic when the events become more dangerous.

Yet over 40% of the global population does not have access to sufficient clean water. In the book Long Walk to Water, there are different symbols to represent water, like perseverance, a journey, and hope, but the main symbol that represents water in the book is the balance between life and death. My knowledge of this book is immaculate considering that not only have I read the book, but I have also answered comprehension questions about the book. So, water is a symbol for life and death rather than anything else.

Life of Pi is a movie about Pi, a shipwreck survivor, and his epic journey of discovery and faith. It is based on Yann Martel’s novel with the same name, and the movie, directed by Ang Lee, makes use of magical realism to convey many themes related to life and spirituality. Many significant symbols are also used to showcase the characteristics of magical realism. In particular, water and the carnivorous island were two important symbols that represented the theme of spirituality in Life of Pi.

The idea of preserving water is a debatable subject. However, humans should stop wasting water and should not take it for granted in order to survive with a healthy body, and reduce health risks. The most important reason why people should conserve clean water is to survive. In other words, water equals life. Without clean water, we will pass away in just a few days.
In the story, Life of Pi by Yann Martel, the main character, Pi, is changed as a person after he must kill a flying fish in order to survive. Through this, Pi’s religious morals changed as well as his personality overall. When Pi first tries to kill the fish he continues to hesitate, and has a hard time committing the action to take the life away. As stated in an excerpt, “Several times I started bringing the hatchet down, but I couldn’t complete the action… A lifetime of peaceful vegetarianism stood between me and the willful beheading of a fish” (Martel 87).
