In the short story “Muffin” by Susan Cooper, Daisy is the kind of character that will keep certain things to herself if it means keeping her well being. One of the few character traits that I found that Daisy shows very well is empathy. In the short story a specific spot where Daisy is compassionate is when she asks the old lady “Please may I give him a piece of meat” as the old lady responds “Im sure he’d be delighted” (Cooper 10).The way that this supports the character trait of Daisy showing empathy is because, Daisy feels bad that Muffin does not get to eat the food that Daisy does so she hides the piece of meat that she was supposed to eat for dinner and the next day gives it to Muffin. Daisy is clearly showing that she is compassionate because she feels bad for Muffin that he has to be all alone so instead of leaving him she attempts to bring Muffin home with her and ask her mom if Muffin can stay. The old lady also teaches Daisy how the war is about bullying and how you should ot bully anyone. The old lady tells Daisy “Bullies must always be stopped, by any means possible.
