What's so important about recycling plastic? I used to think the same idea, until I learned that there is enough plastic in our landfill to orbit the Earth four times. This harmful item can cause death to humans as well as animals. Recycling plastic can help reduce the chances of it causing havoc to our world. Plastic is not biodegradable, produces a ton of energy to manufacture, and during production emits chemical pollution into our air. Plastic sticks around in our landfills for thousands of years. It is considered non-biodegradable. Biodegradable means an object can breakdown over time. When something is not biodegradable, it can stay in the ground for a century. This means plastic that gets thrown away will stick around for many generations taking up precious space in landfills and polluting the environment such as our oceans (Source 1, Para 5). There are ways we can combat this issue by keeping our neighborhood free from garbage and recycle or reuse the litter. …show more content…
An example of this energy use is the manufacture of bottled water. This product takes two thousand times the energy required than to produce tap water. Instead of purchasing water bottles, it would benefit our world by using filtered tap water. One of our most valuable resources to make plastic is crude oil. Crude oil is a precious raw material which is not easy to obtain. Sadly, producing plastic is using too much of our invaluable resources. Recycling is a spectacular way of saving energy and conserving the
