However, at this point in time, it was illegal. As a woman, it was a big complication to get an abortion at this time. According to source 11, “In the 1960’s, abortionists often turned women away if they could not pay $1,000 or more in cash. Some male abortionists insisted on having sexual relations before the abortion” (“History of…” 11). Illegal abortions were also very dangerous and harmful for women. Doctors did not have the technology that they have today, so the procedures were usually fast and sloppy. Due to the fact that it was illegal, doctors wanted to get in and out in order to avoid the risk of getting caught. Doctors now have higher technology and since it is legal, they have to perform abortion on whoever wants one in their first trimester, and cannot just do some here and there depending on a person’s race.
