The world is currently in a state of rapid technological growth. Most claim that technology is incredibly beneficial yet; a small few see it as a paradox and that technology creates more problems than it solves. The main reasons technology should not be so integrated within the educational system is that it takes away a child’s ability to develop skills, to pay attention and to be productive. Technology is supposed to build up the future, not destroy it. A child develops many skills through lessons learned from mistakes, however, if they are busy indoors playing video games or sitting on a couch (as stated by Dyson in Source C), they won’t develop any useful skills. They lose many basic skills that were in the norm by children centuries ago. As a result of technology, “our skill-free children are overwhelmed by information even without the internet” (mentioned in Source E by Gelernter). Communication is the most valued key for success says every professional team in the world. Yet even a skill so simple is not made easy when (Tim from Source B) asks the profound question “how do we communicate with students …show more content…
The simple demand that children already had trouble with, yet as technology is thrown into the mix- the already difficult situation appears to have grown into a hopeless disaster with no feasible solution. Schools must ignore the new popular trend of technology, because children are distracted greatly by any, if not all technology, causes a lack of imagination and short attention spans. As stated by (Dyson in Source C), the “children are living in an information-rich, time-compressed environment that often seems to stifle a child’s imagination rather than stimulate it.” Technology is being “over fed” to the children, greatly reducing their attention spans causing them to easily lose focus.
