USPS Synthesis Essay The U.S. Postal Service has been around for quite some time. They compete with other companies such as UPS or Fedex as they are all known as the most popular postal services. Over time, society has changed due to the technology influences. With the influences, the U.S. Postal Services have encountered a total mail volume decreasing and a loss in revenue. Therefore, the U.S. Postal Service should restructure to meet the needs of a changing world by increasing service and developing an emailing program. According to a graph from the 2009 annual report of the U.S. postal service, over the course of nine years, there have been a significant decrease in the employment rate (Source B). The lack of the jobs will not only impact the business, but the U.S. economy as well. In order to enhance the U.S. Postal Service’s business, they can have delivery for seven days a week. With the internet use, the postal service loses an immense amount of money and the production of mail. Developing an emailing program means that the USPS can cooperate along with the technological advances in this generation. Emailing is a fast and easy way to communicate and send information to and from. “...89 percent of consumers say in polls that they’d prefer not to use direct marketing mail…” (Source E). The poll, provided by an online article, provides an insight on the consumer’s preferences in mailing.
