As the Syrian Civil War is approaching it’s fifth year, we look back at all the devastation it has caused, both in Syria, and in neighboring countries, and what we Canadians can do to help those effected. According to Al-Jazeera, as of March 2015, 10.9 million Syrians have been displaced, 3.8 million of them are refugees, most of them going to neighboring countries like Lebanon and Jordan. So what should Canada as a whole do in regards to the Syrian Refugee Crisis? Also, what should each and every Canadian citizen do? Read on.
First of all, the Canadian government should change their policy towards refugees. They should decide whether or not they are allowed into Canada based on the point system, but instead of 67 points, it should be 80. This is because countries like Lebanon, who haven’t

Every time on the news whenever they cover a recent kidnapping, murder, robbery, or gang/sectarian violence, it is always either the Syrian refugees who are left unmonitored, or the Palestinian refugees, who aren’t any better in terms of keeping the peace. This is why, only the best and brightest of the refugees who can actually contribute to society and not destabilize it, should be allowed into the country, which will be determined if they get 80 points or higher. Also, Canada should not get involved in the Syrian Civil War. It is the intervention and wars of the West that have destabilized the region in the first place. This could be traced back to the Cold War when America created the Mujahedeen, who some people regard as the root of all the jihadist groups, including ISIS. Instead of getting involved militarily, they could get involved humanitarianly. They could help fund and build refugee camps for the Syrian refugees, and help surrounding countries that are too weak to support the burden of all these refugees by providing the necessary training and equipment to help properly
