My favorite song is “The Weekend” by an artist named SZA. The song is overall about SZA explaining how she knew and was willingly having an affair with a guy, that she would only see on the weekends, because he has a girlfriend. However, the overall purpose of the song, was to inform the listeners of how she finds pleasure in this wrongful doing. Within the song, the 3-three literary devices conveyed, which helped get the main points across are Metonymy, Visual imagery, and Paradox. Given from the song, the tone was simply a casual unconcerned tone. Based on SZAs, nonchalant tone, it appears she never acknowledges the fact that the affair is wrong on the behalf of the other girl. On the other hand, the music’s tempo, comes into play, by helping back up and created a tremendous impact towards SZAs words by conveying them into her serious mind set. All in all, the amazement that she has this very nonchalant tone, works perfectly in the song because it allows the listeners to see exactly how far she was willing to take it for this certain guy, despite the circumstance. …show more content…
Metonymy substitutes one thing for another with which it is closely identified. One example from the song is, “You’re like 9-nine to 5-five”. This line in the song was describing the guys commitment to his girlfriend throughout the week. SZA exaggerated the comparison of the girl by referring to her as a job, which usually feels like a burden at a certain extent. The second example would be, “I’m the weekend”. Unlike the other girl, this line from the song however, reveals that SZAs role in dealings with the guy is to be just what he needs for the perfect
