1) Taken collectively, what do these tell us about society's expectations on men? In other words, according to us, society, what does it mean to be a man?
Society has a very meticulous view of men and masculinity. It expects men to be assertive, powerful, aggressive, confident, and passionate. These traits have been shaped since the beginning of mankind and will always be present in one way or another. However, we have reached a time in which people are questioning the norms of society and doing what they want. Men can now express themselves however they feel, but masculinity will always be based of these core traits.
2) In what ways to you conform to or resist these expectations?
I have always been one to conform to masculinity. This is most likely because I was raised by a very masculine father. My Dad has always expressed himself in masculine ways and I believe that it’s rubbed off on me. Although, I have many friends who choose to express themselves in other ways. I believe masculinity attracts women. The same way women appeal to men is the same way men appeal to women. As every individual is different, I am speaking off my own beliefs and past encounters. I have met women that like men who are the center of attention and I have also met women who are not attracted by this. There is a variety of ways to express masculinity.
