Introduction After 47 years of successful service, Southwest Airlines is one of the largest domestic air carrier in the U.S. (Southwestmedia, 2018). With 56.000 Employees and exceptional consumer service, Southwest Airlines is delivering their service to 120 million passengers annually, with 4,000-weekday departures to the 100 destinations in the United States and ten additional countries (Southwest media, 20018). Their culture aspires development, improvement, and individuality and their vision is to deliver highest quality customer service, work hard, have fun and respect everyone. ANALYSIS Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT) Analysis is a strategic tool used by management to assess the strength and weaknesses of business or specific business situation. In their case study Tenney and Marquis, emphasize that SWOT can effectively align business and that company can use the information from it for growth and competitive advantage (2017). Strengths: Southwest Airlines is already established and successful company in the U.S. However, expanding internationally can be an expensive and long process. By merging their forces with the Island Air, which is already operating on a global level, will certainly be more time and cost-effective. The expansion of such a proportion will require the hiring of thousand new employees which can present a challenge, considering that candidates will be recruited from several countries around the world. Even though it can present a challenge, hiring host-country national can prove advantageous for the company. It can eliminate the problem of language barrier.
