Taking A Look At The Pros And Cons Of Hunting

905 Words4 Pages

Hunting dates back to as long as 2 million years ago, using many different techniques in order to catch food. Now, hunting has changed drastically, and has allowed humans to hunt animals for sport. Because of this, the life of environment and the wild is in danger. Hunting causes many negatives to the environment, like the torture of animals, and it is also one of the leading factors of extinction to many. These reasons help prove that hunting is a negative for both wildlife, and the environment One of the reasons that supports the belief that hunting is bad for the environment is that hunting leads to extinction. In the article, “Hunting animals kills forest trees, too”, by Meghna Krishnadas, she states that, “when frugivores are hunted out, …show more content…

An example of this is when animals are hunted for sport. Crystal Lombardo’s article called “Pros and Cons of Hunting”, states, “in several cases, an animal would be killed, its head removed, leaving the rest of its body to rot. On the basis of morality, this is an inhumane thing to do to an animal." (Lombardo, Pros and Cons…). Leaving an animal to rot and die is a very disgusting and sickening thing to do to an animal. The environment now suffers, since the animal is left to rot, and can spread disease to other animals. Another piece of evidence than can be used to prove this is, “those who oppose hunting strongly cite the suffering that is inflicted on the animals. Most of the time, animals do not die instantly after they are shot, even scampering off and hide before dropping. This means that they will experience a great deal of pain from prolonged death” (Pros and Cons of Hunting). From this, I can prove that animals are dealing with a tremendous amount of pain before their death, causing many animals who manage who scatter off after being shot to live the rest of their life with that pain. This pain can lead to a change of diet, making it difficult for animals who hibernate to store fat and energy, and causing a slow, painful, death. Overall, the environment and wildlife both …show more content…

These positives are provide a strong impact on the environment. An example of this can be shown from “How Does Hunting Affect the Environment?” by Kimberly Turtenwald, when she states, “However, if hunting was not allowed at all, some animals could become too numerous and create overpopulation issues." (Turtenwald, How Does Hunting…). From this, it can be inferred that overpopulation is a negative for the environment that is avoided when people decided to go hunting. Overpopulation can lead to a scarce in natural resources, habitat loss, and at its worse, a possible mass extinction of an entire species. Even though hunters help prevent overpopulation, their help is not necessarily needed. Nature and wildlife usually always fix themselves, if there are any problems, without needed human interference. Also, as stated from “Does Hunting Help or Hurt the Environment?” by Bill Davis, “the vast majority of hunted species—such as waterfowl, upland birds, mourning doves, squirrels and raccoons—’provide minimal sustenance and do not require population control.’” (Davis, Does Hunting…). Many animals that are hunted, do not need to have their population controlled, and are usually fine controlling themselves without the help of hunters. From this, it can be proved the argument that hunting helps control overpopulation, is weak and not
