Part One: The Industry
Overview
Exercise and Sports Science is part of the Sports Industry. The Sports industry is considered a market, facilitating several different segments; sports tourism, sporting goods, sports businesses and governing bodies. These sectors facilitate, promote, produce and organise sporting events and products . (West Virginia University, n.d).

History
Although the origins of sport stemmed from more primitive sports and ancient times, the sporting industry as it is known today only began to take shape in the 19th and 20th centuries, when the development of Sports Science truly accelerated. This is achieved by the ISPP, Active Canberra, supporting funding, policies and programs through a range of sports to improve both participation and sporting performance (Active Canberra, 2017). By increasing the participation of sport and helping them to excel in their chosen sport opens up opportunities for scholarships and available jobs that are specifically focused such as an Indigenous Senior Lecturer (Seek. 2017)

Roles and Professions
The Sports Industry has many roles and sectors, from marketing to management, from Sports Scientist to Coach/Development officer, to the Medical/Clinical sector or Corporate Health sector, all of which break off into more specific jobs, for example a biochemist, sports analysts and many more. (ESSA, 2017)

The Industry’s growth rate has resulted in many positions being unfilled or filled with inexperienced, uncredited employees. It is believed it will take a few years to resolve the shortfall. (ESSA, 2013)

Pursuing a sport teaches you to develop time management, independence and how to conduct yourself responsibly, which is important in a professional setting. From training for a sport and previous employment, I have discovered that I am a good listener, which will provide when working with clients. I like to do things to the best of my ability and maintain a relatively high standard. I am focused, motivated and passionate when doing something I am enthusiastic about however when I am not interested in the task I find it a real challenge to motivate myself to complete the task, problematic in such a taxing industry.
