Andy was a member of the royals prior to his death but as he lay on the side walk bleeding we see him regret everything. He regrets affiliating himself with gangs and his previous life choices. we see him evolve as a person from the beginning of the story to the end. from him being a gang member to a self aware human being named Andy. In a matter if 10 minutes his life flashed in his eyes. As Andy lay in the ally helpless, unable to move we see that he is very smart, imaginative, loving, ambitious and determined person. he lay there thinking,'' that was a fierce rumble. They got me good that time, but he did not know he was dying. He would have been frightened if he had known.''(35) He expected to be found and live a long life with his girlfriend. But as soon as reality caught up to him he realized he was not going to make it his entire attitude changed he realized that he had made some very big mistakes and all he could hope was to live long enough to undo them. even before he was stabbed he was thinking that the gang life was not the best life style to life he was beginning to realize that it was glorified. Andy was very ambitious as he was loving and compassionate. he wanted to leave the neighborhood and have children of his own with his then girlfriend Laurie. “Someday he would marry Laura, and they would have lots of kids, and then they would get out of the neighborhood.”(37) He kept thinking about Laurie “He wondered if Laura was angry” (37).
