I watched the movie The Tale of Two Cities. The movie is set in London, England, and Paris, France. The time was set before and during the French Revolution. Before the revolution, Marquis St. Evrémonde was the nobleman in France who represented the aristocracy. Charles Darnay, the nephew of Marquis St. Evrémonde, gave up his title and moved to England where he was put on trial. He was found not guilty. Charles Darnay then married the daughter, Lucie Manette, of Alexandre Manette. Alexandre Manette, a brilliant physician, had been a secret prisoner of the Bastille for eighteen years and was finally released. Madame Dafarge was the surviving sister of the peasant family savaged by the Evrémondes. The French Revolution began with the storming …show more content…
Three Important Historical Events The first historical event I found to be important was the storming of the Bastille. It occurred on July 14th of 1789. The Bastille was a prison located in Paris. Commoners grew impatient with ignorant aristocracy. The commoners then formed the National Guard. They marched to the Bastille and began firing. They killed many of the government officials and took the rest prisoner. This was the beginning of the French Revolution. The second historical point I found to be important was the how the relationship between the commoners and the aristocracy. In the beginning of the film they showed Marquis St. Evrémonde running over a child with his carriage and throwing a coin to the father of the child he just killed. The commoners swore they would get their revenge on Marquis St, Evrémonde. It was a great representation of how the aristocracy took no pity on the commoners. This scene also foreshadowed the uprising of the peasants. The third historical point I noticed was how the peasants lived in Paris, France. In one scene, wine was spilt on the street before it reached the tavern. Within seconds, peasants were on their knees scooping wine into their mouths. They were dying of thirst and hunger. Louis XVI had imposed severe taxes on the poor, thus explaining the way they lived. Their clothing consisted of rags. Their homes were dirty and not safe to live …show more content…
My Thoughts About the Film I found this film to be very informational. The film displayed the bloodshed and gore that occurred during the revolution. For example, many government officials were beheaded. Another example, the child getting run over by the carriage. There were no peaceful agreements from what they showed, only homicides. It covered the overthrowing of the aristocracy and the Bastille Day. The mob that marched to the Bastille in the film was wearing blue, red, and white. These were the colors the National Guard wore. These colors are also the colors of the Flag of
