TalkTalk Security Breach and How You Can Protect Yourself
UK based phone, television, and internet provider TalkTalk, which is the leading provider of such services in England, is facing difficult times after a recent hacking incident put both themselves, and their customers, at risk. The company, who was hacked earlier last week, not only delayed the public release of information about the scandal, but also failed to warn customers about the breech in security. This is a pretty ironic event considering the TalkTalk claims to be one of the first companies to provide internet security for paying customers with their product HomeSafe. Now, the same customers whose information has been protected for years are striking back with angry complaints, claiming that their money and identities were stolen. On top of angry customers, the company is allegedly facing a ransom demand after the contravention from the hackers themselves. Though it’s unclear whether or not the hackers are responsible for the outreach, the chief executive of TalkTalk, Dido Harding, did confirm that he had in fact been contacted by an outside group. The supposed “hackers” are asking for a certain amount of money (the company declined to release the exact number) in exchange for not selling or publishing information about their customers.
