In the book The Glass Castle, the setting is always changing which contributes to the development of the book and the development of the characters. The Glass Castle starts in the 1960's in southern Arizona. As the book continues on, the Walls' find themselves in Welch. When President John F. Kennedy is first elected into office, he himself goes to Welch to hand out the first food stamps. He wants to show the people of America that poverty and starvation exist in their own country (Walls 134).
I felt like it was about a hard working middle class man, who was blinded by wealth and power, I guess that could be considered pride. He sadly forget what was truly important, his family. I do feel that both thoroughly defined their subjects.

Julie Taymor’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream film adaptation creates a fantastical spin on the well-known Shakespeare play. The director is able to create an effective dream-like setting with the use of projections, lighting, and puppetry. From the beginning, there is a sense of wonder created, as without word or introduction, Puck, played by Kathryn Hunter, glides onto stage and lays down on a mattress supported by branches. Puck is then lifted into the air and a large white sheet consumes the stage. Even for those familiar with the play, such as myself, it immediately commands your mind to travel to the dream world Taymor has created.
There are many factors that determine how people behave in their daily lives. We are run by a number of rules and regulations that influence the way we behave, talk and live. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding shows that without the influence of a civilized society and law and order, people’s characteristics can change drastically. Similarly in Macbeth, Shakespeare represents the loss of morality of a leader as his hunger for power clouds his judgement. Both pieces of literature present how both writers view the breakdown of morality through the breakdown of civil behaviour.
Many of the themes and values stayed the same but in order to represent and appeal to the modern teen some of these had to be altered. Without these alterations the movie would have seemed unrealistic and the intended audience would not have related to the film. To stay true to the basic plot of The Taming of the Shrew, characters were kept similar having parallel personality traits. For example, Kate and Kat were similar both being independent and intelligent individuals with their own morals and not caring what anyone else thought of them.
The movie does contain traditional views on dating but it also promotes independence among young women, going in the opposite direction of the original play “ I guess in this society, being male and an asshole makes you worthy of our time.” 10 Things I hate about you. Ultimately both stories The Taming of the Shrew and 10 Things I hate about you are similar, especially in major plot elements. Their differences are in minor details, mainly due to the time period, but still impact the story significantly.
Both times, the main character realises that they have lost everything important to them and have ended up with nothing truly valuable. The play and the film similarly explore the regret and loneliness of those who have lost what is truly important to them. Macbeth and Citizen Kane clearly show the difference between acquiring material goods, and acquiring what is truly important: happiness. Macbeth and Citizen Kane explore the themes of greed, ambition and desire, and are both very clear examples of how such qualities can cause the loss of everything truly valuable. Both works show examples of how those who are overly ambitious can end up with everything they desired, yet nothing they truly want.

The Taming of the Shrew is a romantic comedy. If comedic devices were not there The Taming of the Shrew would be just a normal romance. Comedic devices do work to develop the plot in The Taming of the Shrew. The are several comedic devices in this story: unexpected plot twists, witty language, disguises or costumes, young love with a struggle, and unity and harmony. These all contribute different comedic aspects to the plot and push the plot forward.

While this is sexist, on the surface, this was not the intended meaning behind the works.
