Taoism and Confucianism are two religions with more difference than similarities regardless of a couple of similarities. These “movements created to restore order to a society deeply torn by continued wars and the social troubles they brought (Voorst, 2013).” Neither are part of the major religions of the world but both deeply influence the major religions.
When comparing Taoism and Confucianism, both believe in the Tao. “The Tao is the force that puts and holds everything together (Durham, B. 2018).” The similarity is their belief in the Tao and that nature is agreement and flow with the Tao. They are also both religions established in China (Encyclopedia Britannica, 2018).
Taoism believes in yin and yang and that “every action in life has a complete and opposite reaction and they believe in complimentary principles such as good/evil, male/female, light dark, etc. (Durham, B. 2018).”

Those who believe in philosophical Taoism have a founder Laozi who was born of virgin old and wise. The wisdom book called the Tao Te Ching that was written by many different scholars (Durham, B. 2018). They believe if humans would stop trying to control their destiny and go with the flow, life would be less stressful. They believe in keeping life simple in all aspects of their lives including their relationships and their homes. They encourage one another and others to live in peace and to stay calm because worrying won’t accomplish anything. Religious Taoism is similar to Buddhism. Nature is the yin and the house is the yang. Family harmony is very important and many generations live together in the same house (Durham, B. 2018). They practice peace and uninterrupted time in places called savannahs.
