Imagine living in a world where the government tells everyone how to live their lives, even what pieces of literature the region can and cannot read. There are no such things as actual books anymore, only digital ones. The government has created a committee to pick which piece, out of three, should be deleted. How can anyone want to delete any piece of literature? Tartuffe and Hedda Gabler should be the two works of literature to be kept and The Dead should be deleted forever because it is only about negative things. Tartuffe by Moliere should be kept because of its ability to make people laugh. Why live in a world where there is no laughter? Imagine how boring that would really be. Since the government controls what happens to the city, people need something to make them happy. Tartuffe also teaches a lesson that things will come back to “bite” you. Hedda is a woman who gets what she wants and this region should be able to defend themselves in any situation that it is in. Also Hedda Gabler is full of drama and people need to enjoy what is being read and they need to be in suspense while they are reading. The characters in this story deal with the same conflicts as the region goes through every day and reading this piece of literature may help them and their families get through any kind of conflict that is going on. Hedda Gabler is also a love story. Een though it is a different typ of love story than any other, The symbolism in this story is different than most of the symbolism in any other piece of literature. This region needs to have something in the digital library that varies from all the rest and Hedda Gabler is absolutely the story to keep.
