The Causes of the American Revolution “Taxation without representation is Tyranny!” This is a quote that represents the American Revolution. The American Revolution is when the colonists finally decided that they wanted to split away from the British Union. Although there are many causes of the American Revolution, there are three that can be called the most important. Without the combination of events & communications, the Intolerable Acts and the Declaration of Independence the American Revolution would not have happened, or at least not in the same way. The Intolerable Acts consisted of five acts: Administration of Justice Act, the Massachusetts Government Act, a New Quartering Act the Quebec Act and the Boston Port Bill. These acts were around from 1774-1775. The Administration of Justice Act was instated so that British officials couldn’t be sued. Next up, the Massachusetts Government Act put Massachusetts under the control of the British crown. As may be speculated, this made the people of Massachusetts very angry. Also, there was a new Quartering Act instated. This act made it so that colonists were required to house British soldiers. Also, there was the Quebec act. This act did a few things but one of the main changes was that Quebec’s territory was extended. Finally, the Boston Port Bill was the most hated act of all. This act closed the Boston Port to trade ships which essentially starved the people of Boston until all of the tea destroyed in the Tea Party was paid for. The colonists in Boston did end up getting help from other colonies during this period. This document was written by the Committee of Five: Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman and Robert Livingston. There were many reasons for the colonies to separate from the crown, and they are all listed in the declaration. The declaration has several parts. It starts with an introduction, followed by the preamble, then complaints about King George III after which are the complaints about the British and the conclusion. But all in all the main reasons the patriots wanted to separate from the crown because of the way they were being treated and they were sick of all of Parliament's taxes and
