“Taxation without representation”. There were quite a few events leading up to the American Revolution. But there were three main ones that really were what got the American revolution under way. Those events were the Townshend acts, the Boston Massacre, and the Boston Tea Party. To start off, the Townshend Acts were a series of taxes which taxed lead, glass, paint, tea and other goods. The colonists were very angry about all of these taxations. They decided to boycott by not buying the goods that were being taxed. Because of all of the boycotting the Townshend Acts were repealed all except for tea. Because of tea not being repealed one of the most historical events in history would happen but that will happen later on. Next off, the Boston Massacre which happened on March 5, 1770 was one of the biggest factors leading up to the American revolution. British soldiers were sent to Boston to keep peace, but the constant presence of the soldiers irritated the colonists very much. And the colonists and the soldiers were competing for jobs because of the scarcity of jobs. To top it off the soldiers was harassing women and children. The Boston Tea Party was a protest. The colonists went to the three ships that had tea on them those were The Beaver, The Dartmouth, and The Eleanor and threw the tea overboard. The estimated amount of tea they threw overboard was 92,000 pounds of tea. When England got the news they were absolutely horrified. Due to England being horrified they decided to create the Intolerable Acts one of which was the Boston port act.
