An Experience That Can’t Be Shaken Off Upon entering my freshman year at Cave Spring High School, I made a promise to myself that I would meet Taylor Swift before the end of my senior year. She has been my inspiration since 2007, and I have admired her generosity and all that she does for her fans. Seeing Taylor make a name for herself through her musical talent gave me self-confidence and pushed me to passionately express myself and my own abilities. After three years of relentlessly entering contests, I had still not achieved my goal. The summer before my senior year, I entered a contest to participate in the Worldwide Yahoo Live Stream taking place in New York to reveal Taylor’s fifth album, 1989. I met the rest of the winners, 89 of us total, at the Millennium Hotel, the reason being I was soon to discover. After checking into the hotel using the secret code word given to me on the phone, I waved good-bye to my mom, and joined the other swifties upstairs. Several hours full of anticipation and excited giggling passed, before we were taken to the Good Morning America Studios, the location of the live stream. I sat and watched as Taylor stepped through the door wearing a white two-piece cropped dress, complemented by her signature red lipstick. Taylor looked directly at me as she waved to us and began walking through the crowd of fans. She talked to us as if we were her new best friends, and after announcing details about 1989, she stood up and asked, “Will you please get up and dance with me?” This resulted in shrieks of delight as we abandoned our seats and heard Shake It Off played for the very first time. My heart raced as Taylor danced through the crowd. When the live stream ended, Taylor asked if we wanted to hang out and eat pizza, but she never mentioned where. Who would turn down that opportunity? Taylor Nation loaded us into charter buses and took us, much to our surprise, to Taylor’s apartment.
