Teacher collaboration is another system that teachers have to help them feel valued and lower their desire to leave the education field. It supports teachers so that they can grow closer as a faculty and feel valued. Teacher collaboration has recently developed into various types. One type is Professional Learning Communities(PLCs) which are networks where a more experienced teacher comes to a school and shares their knowledge with the faculty. Sharyn Battersby and Brian Verdi (2015) describe PLCs as “offer[ing] an infrastructure to create the supportive cultures and conditions necessary for achieving significant gains in teaching and learning and for assisting teachers to become more effective in their work with students” (p. 23). Using PLCs shows new teachers that they have more support than just those in their school. Another type of teacher collaboration is mentorship.Mentorship is when a more experienced teacher welcomes a new teacher and advises them on how to be as successful as possible in their teaching career. The article “Teachers Supporting Teachers in Urban Schools: What Iterative Research Designs Can Teach Us” from the School Psychology Review stated that “[e]ffectiveness and connectedness served as the foci of concentrated efforts to support new teachers working in urban schools and the [Key Opinion Leaders] mentors played a critical role in bridging the core service components and addressing persistent concerns about how to sustain programs over time” (p.469). These mentors’ goal is to help the new teachers acclimate to the school and find the endurance to remain a teacher. They provide emotional support by offering anecdotes of their experiences, answers to questions the new teachers have, and the knowledge that the teacher is not alone in the
