Teacher Evaluation System in the United States In recent years, schools systems in various states in America have overhauled the policies considered when determining the judgment of teachers in classrooms. Some of the policies changes have been done without informing parents and students, as the major stakeholders in education. From 2009, more than 32 states in the United States have changed their policies regarding the way teacher evaluation systems work. The whole process of evaluation was faced with resistance from various political standoffs from individuals and even organizations. Some were arguing that process of evaluation needs more funds while others argue that the evaluation will affect the performance of teachers and the students. Obviously, everyone is entitled his/her opinion on the matter in question. Another resistance to the evaluation system process came from the teachers’ unions (Kim and Peter 727). In many of the states, it has been a requirement that the teacher evaluation systems should incorporate the performance of the students, something that the teachers’ unions oppose. Additionally, the system should be a collective bargaining agreement from the teachers and other stakeholders. Teachers through the representation in their unions are opposed to such collective bargaining, which led to a lack of incorporation of teacher performance assessments in the process of evaluating teachers.
