Being a member of the National Technical Honor Society would have a great impact on my future teaching career, and help me to inspire my students to reach for their academic goals. Becoming a special education teacher requires the character traits of knowledge, skill, honesty, service, responsibility, scholarship, citizenship, and leadership everyday. Every amazing teacher needs to be able to provide leadership in the classroom and truly engage his or her students with an ample amount of character. Of course, a teacher is not a teacher without having great knowledge or giving scholarly advice. These characteristics are the foundation of being a well-rounded teacher. The worst one by far is a teacher who has no character. A teacher’s character helps guide the students towards what is morally right and wrong, while still engaging them. This requires an act of honesty; being able to share certain information with your students helps them gain the moral character that they need. This might mean sharing a story of your past that could help the students learn about being kind to each other or the topic that is being taught. Honesty could also become important when a parent asks why he or she’s child is not doing well in the class. A honest teacher would explain to the parent the logistics of the situation and explain how the situation can be solved. Having character and honesty are crucial parts of being a teacher; if a teacher is boring and dishonest than students are not going to want to listen. The best run classrooms are the classrooms that have an uplifting and open atmosphere. Character is also all about discovering what makes you act the way you do. Teaching the preschoolers requires a great deal of character because of their age - everything should be fun, but at the same time still be teaching. I believe some of my best characteristics come out in front of a class. Without knowledge and the appropriate skill training, teachers would be an average person that walked into a classroom to teach. Special education teachers especially require an extensive amount of skill and knowledge to appropriately teach and help their students. All around the world teachers are implementing SOTL (Scholarship of Teaching and Learning) into their classrooms. This means that teachers are teaching their students how to become scholars and how to properly use those techniques when they are no longer in school. The National Technical Honor Society would help me in getting a head start to become a scholar and master some of the skills I need to become a special education
