In the spring of 2016 I graduated with an associate’s degree in science. I graduated with an emphasis on biology because I had planned on going into the medical field. However, I wasn’t looking forward to my acceptance into any kind of medical program; because the only aspects that appealed to me of that kind of career was the money and the ability to help people. I started researching different programs and different careers hoping that something would spark my interest. I was constantly asking myself what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. As a student, it’s easy to assume teachers just stand in front of the classroom and give information. However, now that I’m a college student pursuing a career in teaching my perspective has changed. I know that being a teacher is so much more than just giving a student information. For instance, being a teacher is very demanding because you must be diverse in many different teaching methods to ensure that each child is learning. I’ve learned that it is necessary for a teacher to develop a type of partnership with both the students and the parents to make sure the student is learning properly. Teaching can be challenging because the job expands outside of the classroom and most of the time the work comes home with you. For example, there are always papers to grade and lesson plans to prepare.
The most influential people in my life are my children. I’ve always strived to be someone that they can be proud of and teaching is a very admiral profession. Also, by being a teacher I can better understand the things going on inside their classrooms and in turn I can help them be successful. As a teacher, I can illustrate the value of education and demonstrate how it leads to success. Becoming a teacher would show my children that with hard work and determination you can reach your
