A teacher plays a significant role in ensuring that course learning objectives are met, and knowledge is passed to the learner. A teacher controls the information taught and manipulates the amount of time allocated to a learning activity. A teacher should be able to create a classroom environment that is inclusive and that fosters participation from the learners. The learning environment should be learner centered and must encourage student’s ability to critically think and build confidence in the knowledge about the subject material.
This was my first-time teaching do my values and beliefs about teaching are largely based on the Cavell teaching experience and the expectations I have of my teacher as a student. I strongly believe that the learning environment is a collaborative environment. This means that the teacher collaborates with the learner to meet their learning needs. As a teacher I bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the learning environment, but my students also bring experience into the learning environment, even if its limited. As a teacher I must have the ability to take the knowledge the student has and make it relevant to their learning. However, I noticed that every student’s learning needs are different, and that I must cater to everyone’s learning needs to guarantee inclusivity in the learning process. I discovered that teaching students how to learn using methods that don’t particularly resonate with me (videos) was challenging since I felt it took away student interaction and offered more room for distraction. All styles of learning have their place in the classroom and it is up to the teacher to definite what that place
