What words do you think when someone tells you they are an elementary school teacher? Are “crazy,” “yikes,” or “I could never do that” just a few of them? As I dive into college and hear the question, “what are you studying?” thousands of times, I have experienced many different reactions. No matter what people’s reactions are, none of them will make me question my passion for teaching. I believe that I was called to teach, because no matter what, there is nothing that I could say I would rather do. To be an elementary teacher you should be fair, grateful, and loving, and the Character Strengths test proves that I am suitable for the job. Children at the elementary level need equity and stability. You must treat each kid the same and like you would treat any other. Fairness is what each child needs while in school for the most effective learning. There will be no happy days if you treat every single kid differently. Each child needs to feel like they matter in the classroom, so they can be happy to learn. My top …show more content…

Your whole life needs to be dedicated to making these kids feel safe, loved, and excited to learn. You cannot possibly walk into your job grumpy or annoyed. You have to walk in everyday with a smile on your face and joy in your heart. If you don’t feel an overwhelming joy when you walk into the classroom Monday through Friday, teaching might not be for you. You need to feel the love for the kids in your heart as if they were your own. You shape the kid’s future and you create the beginning of their life path. The goal is to be someone they remember, someone that taught them something other than math and science. You need to love them so they can love you and want to come to school so you can teach them. Teaching needs to be the prime example of, “do what you love and love what you do.” Elementary Education is what I love and what I plan to do for the rest of my
