A1. Why do you want to teach science, math, bilingual, English, or ESL in New York City? (150 words)
I feel I will be able to exhibit the significance of Math in everyday life. The math that adults use to pay bills, manage a budget, tax preparation, as well as other things are significant. Using real-life situations would capture a student’s attention aligned with their interests. Depending on the grade level students start to question the relevancy within how a subject will affect their future. When students struggle in the subject math, I love the gratitude and appreciation that students show towards appreciating the help I give them. These are the components that must adopted to be academically successful students that have positive self-esteem, engages in academic activities, understands they are in control of their grades, and have the interest to learn. I believe an educator has to give positive reinforcement by complimenting students, so that the students can increase their confidence and show them it’s okay to fail but they must be motivated towards reaching their end goals.
Students of lower socio-economic status usually face various challenges including lack of learning resources, difficult learning conditions, and behavior issues that negatively affect their academic success. The effects of poverty can have an impact on a student’s mental well-being such as self-esteem, depression, and cognitive problems.
