Teaching Philosophy Statement

I am a transfer to Central College, and I am currently in my third year of college. I was born in California, and as a child, I moved around often and experienced various of cultures, sizes, and environments in the classroom setting. Ever since I was a child I enjoyed being outside and doing activities such as hiking and fishing. I have a passion for working with kids. Currently I work twice a week with a student with a language disorder, and I teach this student how to read and write. This is one things I always look forward to starting the week.

The moment I first thought about becoming a teacher was in elementary school on my first day in 4th grade. By this time I had attended three separate elementary schools, and every single teacher I had showed great compassion, and helped me immensely through my transition. For some students even, the most adult contact they experience comes through a teacher, and it is important for educators to be these mentors in students lives. I want to be a teacher students can come too, and be there to support the student to help them love to learn. My passion for teaching has grown more recently since I have worked with children in daycare, before and after school programs, and with teaching spanish speaking adults English. After working with these students of all different ages and backgrounds, I have seen how important a good teacher can be. I personally learn best from hands on experiences, and I know throughout these 15 hours, my confidence in being in front of a class will grow. Another thing I hope to learn is how to handle real life problems that can commonly occur in the classroom. I believe that no matter how prepared I come to class, unpredictable things can happen so this hand on experience will give me a taste of that and teach me in so many
