While reflecting over why I want to become a teacher, I went back and looked at some of my old schoolwork from elementary school, and in the "What I Want to be When I Grow Up" section, I always, without a doubt put Teacher. At the time, I think I really just liked the idea of designing a classroom all to myself, but now it has become so much more. The possibility of changing a child's life and helping him or her to realize how much potential he or she has is what drives me to become a teacher. I want to teach in a low-income Urban school, where there are more children that need guidance and someone to look up to. I believe the education and influence of school early on has the ability to affect a child's ability and motivation to complete school. My goal as an educator will be to not only instill my students with knowledge but give them the mindset of being capable and worthy of everything they put their minds to. When I got a little older, I began teaching Wednesday and Sunday school classes through our church, and I learned from keeping the children's attention to effectively delivering information to ensuring the safety of the kids to making it a fun learning environment. All of the knowledge I obtained from teaching in church was greatly enhanced when I did a course called Ready, Set, Teach! in high school. This class allowed for me to go to a kindergarten class to observe the teacher and tutor some of her students. I was in this class for two years and it taught me what it meant to be a teacher, and everything it entails. I got to go to meetings with my shadow teacher, help the students one on one with material they were struggling with, read with the students and much more. Ready, Set, Teach! solidified my aspirations of becoming a teacher and allowed for me to learn some helpful tips from the exceptional teacher I was
