As I mentioned previously, I was the first family member to attend college, and while my family was there to support me they really didn’t understand the college process. Mrs. Gaines is a prime example of how a teacher can make a difference in a student’s life, without her help I may not have attended a four year university, and instead I probably would have opted to go a different route. What she did had a lasting impact on my life and I would like to do the same for my students. Whether that means helping a student through the college process, or assisting them with a dilemma they are facing outside of school. I want to pay it forward by using the teaching skills Mrs. Gaines taught me as well as the experiences we had and bring them into my classroom. As I noted earlier, Millennials had the smallest voting turnout rate for all generations. Combining my love for government and my desire to teach, I believe I can create a fun learning environment for future students. With that being said, I also want to teach because I want to continue my education and expand my mind. My teaching career will be enhanced by the shared experiences of other teachers, the progress of my students, current events, and by keeping up to date on evolving teaching methods. Working in the education field ensures that I will always be in a classroom learning. Just like anything else in life, setting goals is always an important and ongoing part of any career. While some are relatively easy, others will be harder to achieve, and in some cases I may never know if a particular goal was achieved or not. I like to set both small and large goals and in many cases use the smaller goals as stepping stones to help me conquer the larger
