One may have the best solution that can solve the problems we’re facing in the world, however, just one person cannot implement the solution without the help of others. Although Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple, is no longer with us, but with a team of unified commitment, his legacy lives on. There are several characteristics of effective teams, however, there is one that resonates with me the most, unified commitment. The common goal of a team is to succeed, but success will not come if the team is not willing to do whatever it takes to help the team to win. Building a strong relationship will not happen in one day since we do expect differences among each member of the team. However, we do know the relationship will be strengthened as the team will focus on achieving common goals. Address any conflict. Encourage functional conflicts. Motivation: Once they get to know each other, they are excited and motivated. They want to get things done together. They may relate to each other. Encourage the team members who are passionate so the ones who are not can also get on board. Sam Walton, the founder of Walt Mart, says “if you are passionate about what do, other people will catch it like a fever.” Not every member will be motivated the same way. If there is one who is not dedicated, he will catch the passion. Attention will be paid to the free rider tendency as the team increases in size. Loyalty: Good relationship and motivation will call for loyalty. The team is loyal and ready to do whatever it takes to help the team succeeds. At Eaton, we have teams that are loyal. They are willing to work more than twelve hours a day to make sure the customers get their product on time. Right now we are 100% on time delivery.
